This Indenture witnesseth a bargain or an agreement betwen the Sachem of Unchachaug Tobaccus and the Inhabitants of Brookhaven else Seatauk concerning a parcel or tract of Land lying upon the South Side of Long Island being bounded on the South with the great Bay and on the West with a fresh pond adjoyning to a place commonly called oucombamack and on the East with a River called Yamphank and on the North it extends to the Middle of the Island provided the aforesaid Tobacus have Sufficient planting land for those that are the true Native proprietors and their Heirs also that either and both parties have free Liberty for fishing fowling and hunting without Molestation of either party and this is in Consideration of a Certain Sum of Money to be paid to the Vallueation of fiftey fathom of wampam as Witness my hand the date and day Above written

Humbly Shewes

That your petitioners Sold to the Inhabitants of Brookhaven a Certeyn parcell of meadow Land Upon Severall necks lyeing To the westward of East Conecticutt together with Liberty to make yards for fatthening Cattle onely upon the upland - That Since that the said Inhabitants of Brookhaven have built houses & broken up land there without making any Satisfaction to ye petitioners for the same

Your petitioners therefore humbly pray
That your Excellences May order that
the said Inhabitants of Brookhaven

To all people to Whom this present Writeing shal come I Wopehege allis porridg Indian liveing in Brookhavens presints in the county of soffolk on Long Island send greeteing knowe yee that I the saide Wopehege Indian for and in consideration of ye good will and Affection Which I haue & Doe Bare unto Samuel Terrill of ye Aboue sd Towne, and county as allso for Divers other good cases and considerrations mee at this present espeshally moueing haue giuen & granted and by these presents Do giue & grant unto ye sd samuel Terrill a certaine tract of land & meddow sittuate liing and beeing on ye south side of the Towneship of Brookhaven a bouesayd butting and bounded on the East by a River coleed East Conetecut south by a smole River called yamphank§ Whare it Jeynes [joins] to the sd Conetecut West by a tre marked at ye hed of the sayd yamphank north by a swonpe coled Asawsunce? to haue and to holde the sayd land & meddow With all & singeler ye previleges profits and Emollement thereunto belonging or any wayes a pertaineing unto ye sayd Samuel Terrill his Eaires Exsecuters Administrators or asines to his and thare proper use and behoofe for Ever freely and quietly without any maner of Challeng Clame or Demand of mee ye sd Wopehege or of any other other [sic] persun or persunes whatsoever for mee in my name by my cause menes or procuerment and without any monny or other things therfore to bee yealded payd or Don unto mee the sayd Wopehege my heiers Exsectetors Administrators or a sines: haueing Alreddy sreseued full sattisfaction by sundry Gifts and benefits on mee bee fore the Date of this present bestowed & I ye sayd Wopehege for my self my heaires and a sines Doe hereby promise and ingage to ye sayd Samuel Terrill his Aires and a sines a gainst all people to Warrant and for Ever to Defend it by these presents and further Know yee that I the sayde Whopehege haue put ye sd samuel Terrill into peasable & quiet posession of all and singuler the a foresayd granted pemieses by Delevering of turf and twig with a pece of silver monny colled abit fixted a seale to these presents witnes whereof I the sayd Wopehege haue hereunto set my hand and seale this thurteneth Daye of november in the yeare of oure Lord 1688

This Indenture made ye seventeenth day of October in ye tenth year of ye reign of our Sovereigne lord Willliam ye 3rd by ye grace of God of England Scotland France & Ireland Kind Defender of ye faith &C [Et cetera] & in ye year of our lord 1698 Between Jacob Doughty of Jamaica in Queens County of ye Province of Nyorke of ye one party & Samuel Terrill late of Brookhaven in ye County of Suffolk of ye said Province of ye other parte. Witnesseth that ye said Jacob Doughty for good causes him thereunto moving Especially for ye sum of twenty three pounds ten shillings good & lawfull money already received ye receit whereof is hereby acknowledged Hath given granted aliened sould conveyed assured & Confirmed & by these presents doth give grante alien sell convey assure & Confirme unto ye said Samuel Terrill his heires & assignes all of ye one moyity or equal halfe of a certein necke tract or parcell of land called Waracta lying & being on ye Southside of Nassau Island [Long Island] bounded on ye East by a Creeke called Meriches [known today as "Terrell River"] on ye west by a Creeke called Sweniches [known today as "Senix Creek"] To Have & to hold one moyity or equall half of ye said necke or parcell of land called Waracta with all & singular ye lands meadows profits privilidges & appurtenances to ye same belonging or any wise appertaining to ye said Samuel Terrill his heirs & assigns for Ever to ye proper use & behoofe of the Said Samuel Terrill his heires & assigns for Ever. And ye said Jacob Doughty for himself his herires Executors or Administrators doth hereby covenant promise & grant that ye premises are clearly acquitted from all incumerances & ye same to ye said Samuel Terrill his heires & assignes doth hereby warrant & confirme and of it be needful to give any further assurance of ye same. Abstract of Deed of Samuel Terrill to Sarah Conkling 5 August 1714

To all Christian people Greeting. Know Ye, that I, Samuell Terrill of the Mannor of St George, county of Suffolk, Blacksmith, in consideration of the sum of two hundred and thirtie pounds to me in hand paid by Sarah Conkling Wid: of John Conkling late of Southold de ceased, doe by these presents grant bargain alien sell and confirme unto the sd Sarah Conkling and her heirs a certain Neck of land scituate within the Mannor aforesaid, on ye South side of Nassau Island, known by the name of Waracto Neck bounded Eastward from the bay by Moritches River to the head thereof and Northward by a line running West from ye head of sd River untill meet by a direct line runing from ye head of Seretches River and so westward by the sd River to the bay thence southward along ye bay to Meritches River aforesaid.

Witness my hand and seal this 5th day of August 1714.

Abstract of Sarah Conkling Will of 19 January 1732

In the name of God, Amen. I, Sarah Conkling, of the town of Southold, widow. I leave to my son, Thomas Conkling, ½ of all those lands situate in the Manor of St. George, on the south side of Nassau Island, known by the name of Waracta Neck, which I bought of Samuel Terrill by deed dated August 5, 1714...
Dated January 19, 1732.... Proved, April 1, 1755.

[Note. - The Neck called "Waracta" is at Centre Moriches, in the town of Brookhaven. Although included in the limits of the Manor of St. George, it never was a part of it, being owned by prior grants. The larger part of the neck was the property of Hon. John S. Havens recently deceased. It is bounded on the east by Terrills river, which separates it form the Patentship of Moriches. The neck, or the greater part of it, was sold to John Havens.]

‡ Yamphank Neck is the land on which the village of South Haven is situated. It is from the west line of this neck which extends up through Yaphank that this modernly named village took its name.

§ This is a stream now frequently called Barteau's Creek in South Haven.

? Asawsunce is a swamp south of the village of Yaphank. The name by lapse of time has been corrupted to Oosunk. It probably derives it's name from Asawsunce an Indian who lived at the swamp during the early days of settlement.
